We are very excited to be able to offer a fine example of the Ty Cobb Tobacco Tin in our upcoming July 13th Advertising Auction. These tins are exceptionally rare and highly prized by both tobacco tin collectors and baseball card collectors. A rare variant of the T-206 Ty Cobb card with the Ty Cobb tobacco back came in these tins and high end T-206 and baseball collectors prize it as a display item, which has driven prices on these to sky-high levels in previous sales. There are fewer than 20 of these tins known to exist and this one is in very nice condition overall.
While there are a couple Ty Cobb tins in better condition than this, overall the condition is very good with little to no litho loss, it displays very nicely indeed. Many T-206 collectors consider the rarity of this tin comparable to the Honus Wagner card and we’d agree. The Ty Cobb tin and tobacco were manufactured by the F.R. Penn tobacco company who made a deal with Ty Cobb to use his likeness to brand and advertise their tobacco.
