Akron, OH - Ch. 4961 - 1882 $10 Brown Back

An excessively rare Akron bank that, prior to this evening, had only one other note reported in the census. Organized in 1894, this short-lived institution issued only a handful of Brown Backs before closing its doors forever in 1904. The one note currently in the census is a $20 which is listed without a grade and which has never been offered publicly, according to Track & Price. While today's offering is not a thing of beauty, it does present an opportunity to acquire an Ohio charter that eluded the great Buckeye State collectors, including Don Kelly and Lowell Yoder. This piece is a moderately circulated $10 Brown Back that does have some staining and a few pinholes but the overprint remains bold and the pen signatures are clear.
